The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit

Okay, so there's six homeless men, and they sit along the street and envy the people with all of the nice clothes. Who wouldn't if you were a man with dirty clothes sitting on a sidewalk in Mexico? One day they realized that if they had enough money they could buy a suit that looks just like a man walking past. The suit costs $60. They collected $10 from everybody and bought the suit. They set up times that everybody would wear the suit each night. The suit made them feel very happy and lucky and drunk. When one of the men, Villanazul, is hit by a car. The men rushed to peel the unscathed suit off of him and replace it with other clothes as the ambulance came. After they changed Villanzul, they realized that they had cared more about the suit than they had their own friend. They were very sorry and stayed with Villanzul at the hospital.
This is your typical story about greed and how it can ruin one's life although it might not be their own. When people gamble in different places they have to be careful. Too, many people have gone bankrupt because of not knowing when to stop. Greedy people should steer clear of casino boats, poker games, and Nevada. On my trip to Las Vegas, I saw many people constantly gambling and putting money into slot machines. My dad would actually come home after two hours of gambling with $100 dollars less than what he had begun with. When people let winning in slot machines take control of their mind they can loose up to $600 in one night.

The Gift

In the story "The Gift", a child is taken on his first rocket trip at Christmas time. If only humans were able to just hop on a rocket and head into space. Now you can. You can take a round-trip around the Earth in low orbit and then once around the moon allowing people to see the side of the moon that us as humans never get to see on Earth. The only thing that's holding me back is the price: $100 million.

All Summer in a Day

Doesn't it seem unfair when you have something taken away and you won't get it back for seven years? It's a lot easier on the kids that had something and had it taken away at a very young age. Imagine how Margot felt. She had moved from Earth when she was four years old to Venus. On Venus, it rains for seven years without a sun, and then the sun will appear for one hour every seven years. She remembers the sun better than anyone in her class. The rest of her class denies all of her descriptions. On the day the sun was scheduled to come out, the class locked Margot in a closet because they thought she was lying. In a few minutes, the sun came out. The kids forgot about Margot and went to enjoy the sun. Devastated Margot missed the whole thing. Seven more years of waiting here she comes.
I feel that the whole classroom setting is perfect for this type of story. Kids can act very immature and resolve their problems by attacking the person, not the problem. I see a lot of that at elementary schools and when I babysit. When the kids have a problem, the fight about it. If another kid is in their way, they push them. If their sibling is annoying them, they slug them. This just ends up with more suffering for both the child that was hurt and the child that hurt them.

The Veldt

In "The Veldt", spoiled rotten children lock their parents in a room, the Nursery, that can bring your imagination to a screen that plays with your mind with its smells, change in temperature, wind, and sound, after a threat to close it. Last time we saw the parents, they were in Africa as a lion was racing toward them. The children had then opened the Nursey and waited there until the phsycologist arrived. Were the parents eaten by the lions or were they just playing hide and seek?
I am suprised that it wasn't the parents who had killed the children after the children's horrible behavior. Although it's not like things like this haven't happened before. Children murder their parents whether it's over money, abuse, or influence. Kids who are taught to be greedy and taught to do what it takes to get money. Also, when children are abused, they are even more tempted to kill their parents. Music, television, and friends can influence kids to kill their parents. All I know is that my parents and I may fight but no power on Earth could make me even think about killing them.
